“When your young, hang out with old people, when your old hang out with young people.”

Immediately following the One Fly I was able to sneak away and go fishing with my two good friends Steve Buck and Paul Rice. I was happy to get out of the valley and away from the daily Snake River grind. I love that river but its a big world with lots of rivers to explore and plenty of happy trout. So we headed West. We spent two days and one night exploring this beautiful place. Im always vague when describing rivers and thats ok and its not the point anyway. I trust with enough effort you will find your own perfect bend in some river. Or maybe it will be on a mountain by a river that has no end. It could be to the North, and Maybe it will remind you of your father, or your family, or your past.

Two Bloody Legends

As soon as we got to the river we were literally so excited I couldn’t even eat or drink or think I just wanted to get that boat in the water, after all we could see rising fish from the boat ramp. So after organizing everything and throwing our gear in, we shoved off. Not a minute went by and Paul was hooked into a pig. We all started laughing and thought to ourselves, its going to be one of those days. Out of the gate Steve also started hooking fish and boy we were into them. It was silly it reminded me of everything good in the world, and how fortunate we all are and how fortunate I was to sit in that boat with these two. Like Yvon Chouinard said the other night,”When your young hang out with old people, and when your old hang out with young people.” And what a great way to enjoy your time. I often feel like I have more in common with any old fly fisher than I do with the average 20 something ski bum.

“Poetic in some hands, Scientific in others.”

The action dint stop for quite some time. During the day we hooked lots of fish in the 20 inch mark. It was a superb day of fishing. Time and time again people try to pick apart fly fishing, and they really try to describe their feeling towards it. What is it? Why do I love it so much? Why doesn’t my wife understand? I try to do the same. I think all you really need to know is that its fun. And whoever has the most fun wins.
